Our Mediators are qualified to consult with children in Mediation where appropriate. Children sometimes want to be heard when their parents are not agreed about arrangement for them. If the parents agree that the children shall come to mediation, then the mediator will prepare the parents for the way in which this will be done, make contact with the children to invite them to meet and then see the children without the parents being present.
The children have a confidential relationship with the mediator and, at the end of their meeting with the Mediator, they decide with the Mediator what the parents are to be told concerning their wishes and feelings. Children are free to decide if they want to be present or not when their parents are told by the Mediator about their wishes and feelings and sometimes they want to tell the parents themselves when the mediator is present.
